Adopt for Christmas!

During the holiday season we make it a priority to share with those who need a little help. Over the years we have adopted families and provided gifts for each member and the holiday meal. Other adoptions have included our favorite charity. Attendees of our holiday parties make a donation to our Association in lieu of a gift for the host or hostess. Regardless of the creative approach, the outcome is always the same. Everyone opens their heart for the greater good of another. In November 2000 one particular adoption changed our lives forever!
Thanksgiving was quickly approaching and it had been very cold and wet earlier in the week. By the weeks end, however, we got a blast of Indian summer! It was so nice in fact, we opened the office door to enjoy the sun and warmth. Through that open door came a floppy eared little puppy! She was only a couple months old and very happy to have our company!  At the time, I was an outside account executive and it was rare that I would be in the office. But I just happened to be there this particular day. My three co-workers were just as surprised to see the little visitor as I was. She greeted each one of us with enthusiastic joy.  She smelled of wet fur and leaves. I imagined she had been sleeping outside for some time. Regardless, her charismatic personality was obvious. It didn’t take long for this little one to grow tired after all the excitement. Suddenly, it was puppy nap time. Without hesitation, she walked under my desk and curled up just as if she had done it a hundred times before! It was obvious that she had just adopted me! All these years later, this little floppy eared puppy still lies beside my desk as I work. I am so grateful that I was in the office that day; the day Jersey chose me as her doggy Mom!

Many families choose Christmas as the time to bring a new pet into the family. If you are pondering a pet, I urge you to please consider adopting from your local shelter or rescue agency. A quick search by zip code on petfinder.com listed over 4,500 dogs in need of a home. If you can open your heart to a homeless pet, it will be the best Christmas present your family ever received!

Jersey & I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
